Crystal Blockchain is an international team of blockchain analysts developing tools to track cryptocurrency transactions. They help banks, governments, and investigative bodies understand the flow of crypto funds — from origin to destination. They detect fraud and prevent financial crime to make the crypto industry more transparent and secure.

Challenge
Crystal approached us with a request to develop a new identity. During the briefing, it became clear that the company had reached a stage where a visual redesign alone wouldn’t be enough.
To make a real leap forward, the brand needed a strategic reset — rethinking where it currently stands and what core value it delivers.
We started with strategy — defining a new positioning and building a foundation for growth.


Research & Strategy
We analyzed the competition and user behavior to uncover a new positioning.
The market turned out to be relatively homogeneous. Most players operated across multiple segments and communicated similar functional benefits. In both visuals and messaging, competitors focused heavily on product, with minimal emphasis on user needs or brand values.
The key insight came from client interviews.
Most users spoke in rational terms — price, specs, certifications, blockchain coverage, government ties — but their behavior told a more nuanced story. What truly mattered was the experience: emotions, usability, comfort, and trust.
Above all, they shared a single priority — speed. They need to keep pace with a dynamic market, react to risks instantly, and make decisions in real time.

In crypto, risks appear constantly. Detecting them quickly is vital.
Crystal updates its database every few minutes. Competitors, by contrast, may take hours — or even a full day. That delay gives bad actors time to move funds and forces teams to waste valuable resources chasing them down.
That’s how the new positioning was born.

This new positioning helps Crystal stand out not just for its product, but for a clear, category-defining advantage.
We articulated the brand’s value so it speaks to the entire market — from decision-makers to end users.

This built-in sense of speed becomes a core brand element, expressed through both communication and design.
Design System
The identity is built on two core principles: speed and transparency. These are key to expressing the brand’s values. We started with the logo redesign. The goal wasn’t simplification, but refinement. We redesigned the shape and type and added dynamic motion.
We chose the Matter typeface deliberately because in design, every detail matters.It fits the tech industry perfectly and supports multiple languages, which was critical for the client.
The core visual element is animated lines that represent transaction flows. They work equally well in minimal or complex compositions. The lines move at varying speeds — some shoot forward, others vibrate, like a rocket trailing smoke. This motion acts as a visual cue for potentially risky transactions.

Yellow remains the lead color — now brighter and more tech-forward. A palette of grays adds balance and flexibility while emphasizing the core brand color.

To expand the visual toolkit, we introduced flexible templates for 3D branding and a dedicated guide for working with AI-generated visuals.
